Taxonomic notes: —Distinctive features of P. martii include the diminutive size of its ovate leaves measuring between 0.5‒1.2 × 0.3‒0.8 cm and the presence of 3-rostrate mericarps. Notably, the branches exhibit a pubescent to glabrous texture, and the epicalyx is characterized by the presence of 10 filiform bracteoles.

Distribution, habitat, and IUCN threat status: —It is endemic to Brazil and occurs in the states of Pernambuco, Bahia (Northeast), and Minas Gerais (Southeast) (Flora e Funga do Brasil, 2022). It is recorded in areas of Caatinga and Campos Rupestres. In Pernambuco, it is registered in four municipalities in the Caatinga Zone (Sertão subzone). Based on herbarium records, it does not occur within conservation units. This species has an EOO of 329,220.839 Km² and an AOO of 416.000 Km². Exhibits restricted distribution to three Brazilian states in areas of Caatinga and Cerrado, both threatened by agriculture and mining. In this case, the populations of P. martii are vulnerable to threats inherent to these phytogeographic domains. Therefore, this species is here considered Endangered (EN).

Phenology: —Collected with flowers and fruits from April to July.
