Paratendipes nigrofasciatus Kieffer
( Figs. 33–35 View FIGURES 32 – 38 )
Paratendipes nigrofasciatus Kieffer, 1916: 117 .
Prochironomus irioheius Sasa et Suzuki, 2000: 16 View in CoL –17, Fig. 17 View FIGURES 13 – 26 a–m. [Holotype 385: 043.] Syn. nov.
Prochironomus irioheius View in CoL apparently belongs in the genus Paratendipes View in CoL , as it has a cylindrical median volsella densely covered with slightly broadened setae and a superior volsella with swollen base and short, slightly hocked distal part ( Figs. 33–34 View FIGURES 32 – 38 ). The wing of P. irioheius View in CoL has two broad, conspicuous dark bands ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 32 – 38 ﹚, and the anal point is comparatively short and slender. According to Kieffer (1916: 117), these characters are diagnostic for Paratendipes nigrofasciatus Kieffer.
Wang et al. (1989) placed Chironomus (Prochironomus) bifascipennis Tokunaga, 1940 as a junior synonym of Paratendipes nigrofasciatus . Prochironomus Kieffer, 1909 is considered a nomen dubium by Ashe and Cranston (1990: 317).
