( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 , 22–23 View FIGURES 20 – 27 , 28 View FIGURES 28 – 30 , 31–37 View FIGURES 31 – 37 )
Mesoereis tonkinensis Breuning, 1938: 197 View in CoL ; 1938: 390; 1959: 49.
Redescription. Male ( Figs 22–23 View FIGURES 20 – 27 , 28 View FIGURES 28 – 30 ). Body length 11.5–18.0 mm, body width 5.5–7.0 mm. Body black, evenly covered with light grayish-brown pubescence. Head intermixed with light grayish-brown pubescence; occiput with three longitudinal bands of dark brown pubescence of which middle one is rather narrow, and lateral ones are rather wide and laid behind upper lobe of eyes. Antennal scape intermixed with dark grayish-brown and light grayishbrown or pale rose pubescence; basal parts of third to the last antennal segments annulated by white or pale rose pubescence; the remainders covered with dark brown pubescence. Pronotum intermixed with light and dark grayish-brown pubescence; disk with three indistinct longitudinal dark grayish-brown bands of which lateral ones are wide, and median one is slightly narrower than lateral ones, interrupted near the middle. Elytra with maculations consisting of dark grayish-brown pubescences, of which two transverse zigzag bands on basal third and apical third, a short and narrow longitudinal band near base between scutellum and humerus, scattered throughout with small spots of dark grayish-brown pubescence, and ornamented with pale rose pubescence near basal and apical areas. Femora and tibiae with annulations consisting of intermixed white and pale rose pubescence.
Body elongate, oblong in shape. Head slightly narrower than pronotum, uniformly micro-sculptured with a few punctures; eyes nearly subdivided; lower lobes a little less prominent than the former species, slightly wider than long, almost as long as gena.
Antennae about 1.5 times as long as body length, surpassing elytral apices at the middle of seventh segment; third segment about 1.4 times as long as scape and about 1.5 times as long as fourth; last segment almost straight with slightly bended apex.
Pronotum slightly convex above, widest near middle, narrowed towards base and apex, about 1.3 times as wide as long, with three indistinct discal tubercles; base about 0.7 times as wide as elytral width at humeri; disk sparsely punctured, with irregular rugae throughout and transverse furrow near apex.
Scutellum wide obtrapezoidal.
Elytra long, about 1.9 times as long as width at humeri, about 3.6 times as long as pronotal length, almost parallel-sided with distinct constriction behind sub-quadrate humeri, arcuately rounded toward apex; each disk moderately punctured near base, the punctures getting smaller toward middle and almost indistinct on apical third, with a well developed two-hump shaped longitudinal boss of which the posterior swelling is higher than the anterior one.
Male genitalia ( Figs 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 , 31–37 View FIGURES 31 – 37 ). Tegmen in lateral view weakly curved, oblong rhombic-shaped and widest just before middle in ventral view; ringed part in ventral view slightly expanded laterad before middle of tegmen, thence arcuately narrowed basad; lateral lobes moderate in length, about one-sixth of the total length of tegmen; ventral side of each lobe transversely swollen near base in rectangular shape, and with a longitudinal peak-like ventral swelling from basal fifth to apical two-fifths, with inner side emarginated near base and outer side straightly narrowed to rounded apex, with two kinds of setae of which one is long, thick and concentrated near apex, and the other is rather short and thin, arising mainly from latero-ventral sides of basal third.
Median lobe in lateral view weakly curved; in ventral view, apex roundly acuminate; median struts started from before middle.
Endophallus in lateral view almost twice as long as median lobe. The relative length of median lobe and endophallus with each broad membrane area as follow: median lobe: total length of endophallus: BPH: MPH: APH= 5.2: 10.0: 2.4: 6.9: 0.7. MPH with MT+CT about 0.6 times as long as endophallus; PB about 0.1 times as long as endophallus. APH rather long, swollen in oval shape.
MSp rather densely distributed in apical 2/3 of MT+CT. LSp relatively large, uni-dentate, thick and short, densely distributed from latero-ventral to dorsal side of basal 1/3 of MT+CT. SSp densely and evenly covered PB. MSp area and LSp area adjacent; LSp area and SSp area close to each other.
ED arising from near base of APH on dorsal side. AS semi-membranous and uncolored, connected ED at base.
Female. Body length 18.0–20.0 mm, body width 7.0– 7.5 mm. Almost identical to male in general appearance. Antennae about 1.2 times as long as body, surpassing elytral apices at the middle of ninth segment. Elytra about 1.9 times as long as width at humeri, about 4.1 times as long as pronotal length.
Type material. Holotype housed in MNHN; 1 female, “Chapa/ Tonkin / mai 1916 ” [white label printed], “ TYPE ” [red label printed], “ Mesoereis / tonkinensis / mihi Typ/ det. Breuning” [white label printed], “ tonkinensis Br ” [white label printed], “Museum Paris/ Coll. M. Pic” [white label printed].

Notes. This is the first record of this species from Laos and Hainan Island of China.
This species was described under the genus Mesoereis by Breuning (1938) based on a female specimen from Chapa, Tonkin. However, it is closer in general appearance to Paragolsinda fruhstorferi than Mesoereis koshunensis Matsushita, 1933 which is the type species of the genus Mesoereis . The genus Mesoereis is characterized by the following features: elytra parallel-sided without constriction behind humeri; antenna slender and fairly long, more than 1.5 times as long as body length; antennal scape elongated; pronotum rather long, only slightly shorter than width; elytra sparsely with suberect hairs throughout, and lacking distinct high bosses on the base; endophallus with PB of MPH short, APH elongated bursiform and without AS ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 19 ). This species does not possess these characteristics, thus it should not be included in Mesoereis .
On the other hand, this species is strongly suggested to be placed under the genus Paragolsinda by the resemblance of external features mentioned below to the type species of the genus, P. fruhstorferi though we could not examine the male genitalia of P. fruhstorferi : antennae rather short and thick; the last segments of male antennae bent inwardly near the extreme apex; pronotum distinctly wider than long, with three feeble discal tubercles; each lateral projection vestigial; elytra with well developed obtuse bosses near base, without suberect hairs throughout. For these reasons, this species should belong to the genus Paragolsinda .
This species can be easily distinguished from other congeners by the following features: pronotum without a pale rose longitudinal wide band on each lateral side; elytra with two-hump shaped longitudinal boss on each disk near base of which the posterior swelling is higher than the anterior one, without basal tubercules; lateral lobe of tegmen without distinct ridge near base.
