4. Parabistichella cf. variabilis Jiang et al., 2013 View in CoL ( Fig. 4 View Fig )

Material examined. Terrestrial soil sample collected from a footpath behind Gangneung-Wonju National University, Gangneung, Korea (37°46 ʹ 30.4 ʺ N, 128°51 ʹ 46.2 ʺ E) on 3 January 2020 GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. Body size 97-142 × 35-40 μm after protargol impregnation (n = 5); body elongate, 2 macronuclear nodules and about 3 micronuclei; adoral zone of membranelles covered about 26-31% of cell length with about 33-36 membranelles; right and left marginal row with about 41-59 and 51-55 cirri, respectively, right marginal row commences on dorsal side; 3 frontal, 1 buccal cirrus, about 4 midventral pairs, midventral row composed of 28-31 cirri, frontoventral row of 39-46 cirri on average, and 6 or 7 transverse cirri; 3 dorsal kineties.

Distribution. China and Korea.

Remarks. The Korean population of Parabistichella variabilis agrees with the type population in most features ( Jiang et al., 2013). However, the only differences between the two populations are the non-overlapping body size (97-142 vs. 167-268 μm after protargol impregnation) and the number of the adoral membranelles (33-36 vs. 43-51), suggesting that they could be distinct species. Voucher slides. Two slides with protargol-impregnated specimens were deposited at the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources (NNIBRPR20109, NNIBRPR20110).
