Palpibraca haemorrhoa Rondani, 1846 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1846a: 23.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italiae Borealis et centralis collibus [hills in boreal (= northern) and central Italy]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Peleteria ruficornis ( Macquart, 1835) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 278, O’Hara et al. 2020: 856).
REMARKS: Rondani (1846a: 23) described Palpibraca haemorrhoa without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths. He later ( Rondani 1856: 63) treated Palpibraca as a synonym of Cyphocera and, incorrectly, the species as “ haemorrhoidata ”, which we consider a subsequent incorrect spelling of “ haemorrhoa ”. We were unable to locate any type material of this nominal species in our study. There are four specimens (non-types) in the OUMNH labeled “ Wien ” [Vienna], which is not the type locality.
