Subfamily OVALIPIINAE Spiridonov, Neretina & Schepetov, 2014
The subfamily Ovalipiinae was described as family Ovalipidae by Spirodonov et al. (2014). However, Spirodonov (2020), in agreement with the suggestion by Evans (2018) based on his molecular phylogenetic reconstruction, accepted the closer relationships of Ovalipes with geryonids and consequently moved this group as a subfamily of the Geryonidae with only one genus. They are pelagic species known as swimming crabs ( Kensley 1981).
Evans, N. (2018) Molecular phylogenetics of swimming crabs (Portunoidea Rafinesque, 1815) supports a revised family-level classification and suggests a single derived origin of symbiotic taxa. PeerJ, 6 (e 4260), 1 - 55. https: // doi. org / 10.7717 / peerj. 4260
