Status at New Ireland. Recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland in original description by Fricke (2017a: 64); previously misidentified from Kavieng, New Ireland by Kailola (1987a: 176) as O. japonicus (non Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1829). NTUM 11370 (holotype, Kavieng District).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—Apparently endemic to New Ireland. 181–190 m depth. Marine.
