Osbornellus coopertus Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs. 32a–32e)
Description. Length: 5.8–6.6 mm. Member of the O. rarus group ( Fig. 1b). Similar to O. rarus .
Male genitalia: Pygofer about 1.5 times as long as greatest width; slightly projected posteriorly, apex wide, slightly concave; with few medium-sized macrosetae dispersed along apical third ( Fig. 32a). Valve triangular, margins rounded in anterior half. Plates short, wide at base, tapered, apex pointed, with a few short, dispersed setae ( Fig. 32b). Style with apophysis long, straight, truncate ( Fig. 32c). In ventral view aedeagus wide at base, curved, ovate laterally, then straight and tapered; shaft hidden by ventral processes; dorsal projection with small lateral extension ( Fig. 32d). Ventral processes arising close to base of aedeagus, straight, apressed in basal two-thirds, apical third narrower, pointed, apices convergent, external margin transparent. In lateral view shaft wide, curved caudad, apex wider, rounded, shorter than ventral processes; dorsal projection expanded apically, truncate. Gonopore subapical. Ventral processes very separated from shaft at base, very curved at base, then vertical, narrow, apices rounded ( Fig. 32e).
Diagnosis. O. coopertus is very similar externally to O. rarus and O. latus . O. coopertus , in ventral view, has the ventral processes of the aedeagus with external margins transparent and the apices convergent. O. latus lacks the transparent external margin and the ventral processes are not convergent apically. O. rarus also lacks the transparent external margin.
Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 2100–3000 m.
Etymology. This species is named for the aedeagal shaft hidden by the ventral processes.
