Figures 3, 8, 12, 16, 18
Orthocephalus rhyparopus Fieber, 1864: 222–223 View in CoL .
DIAGNOSIS: Recognized by the partly yellow antennal segments I and II, hemelytra dark brown, femora at least partly yellow, tibiae yellow, evaporatorium dark brown, bristlelike setae on head, pronotum longer than diameter of eye, antennal segment I with numerous bristlelike setae, aedeagus without spicules (fig. 8), and dorsal labiate plate without medial sclerites (fig. 16). Most similar in appearance to O. fulvipes and O. modarresi but these two species distinguished by the evaporatorium at least partly pale brown or yellowish and the bristlelike setae on head and pronotum distinctly shorter that diameter of eye.
REDESCRIPTION: Male: Macropterous; length 5.2–5.3. COLORATION (fig. 3): Head: Dark brown, with yellowish spot near inner margin and whitish yellow stripe along posterior margin of eye; maxillary plate often with pale brown or yellowish stripe below antennal fossa; antennal segment I yellow to dirty yellow, darker at base; antennal segment II yellowish, with more or less darkened apical two thirds; antennal segments III and IV dark brown; labium dark brown. Thorax: Pronotum and pleurites dark brown; evaporatorium dark brown, almost same color as thoracic pleurite; scutellum dark brown; coxa dark brown, with paler apex; femur yellowish, with more or less darkened base; tibia yellowish with darkened apex; tarsus dark brown; hemelytra dark brown; membrane uniformly pale brown. SURFACE AND VESTITURE: Head and pronotum shiny, smooth, only basal part of pronotum somewhat rugose; hemelytra smooth, matt. Dorsum, pleurites and abdomen clothed with scalelike silver setae (as in figs. 22 A-C, E, 23 A, D); antennal segments II-IV, entire dorsum, coxae, femora, and tibiae with long, erect, dark bristlelike setae, those on head and pronotum somewhat longer than setae on hemelytra and appendages, somewhat longer than diameter of eye, antennal segment I with numerous erect, dark, bristlelike setae. STRUCTURE AND MEASUREMENTS: Body 3.1–3.5× as long as width of pronotum. Head: Relatively narrow, 1.2–1.3× as wide as high, frons convex, mandibular plate long and narrow; depression along hind margin of vertex distinct; eyes weakly protruding; vertex 2.2– 2.4× as wide as eye; eye located at a short distance from anterior pronotal margin; antennal fossa located close to inferior margin of eye; antennal segment I somewhat longer than diameter of eye; antennal segment II thin, not incrassate, cylindrical, 0.7–0.8× as long as basal width of pronotum, 0.9–1.1× as long as width of head; labium reaching middle coxae. Thorax: pronotum 2.0–2.4× as wide as long and 1.2–1.4× as wide as head with posterior margin concave, lateral margin carinate, calli slightly raised; hind femur relatively narrow, approximately 1.5× as wide as middle femur. GENITALIA: Aedeagus (fig. 8) without any armament; parameres as in fig. 12.
Female: Brachypterous, length 4.4–4.7. COLORATION: As in male; antennal segments III and IV dark brown. SURFACE AND VESTITURE: As in male. STRUCTURE AND MEASUREMENTS: As in male. Body 2.9–3.6× as long as width of pronotum. Head: 1.2–1.3× as wide as high; vertex 2.8–3.3× as wide as eye; antennal segment II 0.6–0.8× as long as basal width of pronotum, 0.8–0.9× as long as width of head. Thorax: Pronotum 1.8–2.0× as wide as long and 1.1–1.3× as wide as head; length of hemelytra ranging from reaching abdominal tergum VII to covering abdominal tergum VIII, cuneus slightly delimited, claval commissure as long as inner claval margin, posterior and lateral margins of hemelytra rounded. GENITALIA: Sclerotized rings triangular; dorsal labiate plate of seminal depository with medial sclerites straight, distinctly longer than ring (fig. 16); posterior wall of bursa copulatrix with trapeziform sclerite uniformly sclerotized, depression on the anterior margin broad and not reaching middle of sclerite, anterior angles of this sclerite not dentate, posterior margin without sclerites (fig. 18); sclerites encircling vulva straight and not forming circle (as in fig. 19, O. styx ).
DISTRIBUTION: The species is known form Volgograd Province of Russia and Dijabakir (= Diyarbakir, Turkey) ( Reuter, 1891).
HOST: Unknown.
