Distribution and habitat: — Onosma maaikangensis grows on sandy slopes, low shrubs or roadsides. Its elevation ranges from 2650 to 3900 m, narrowly distributed in W Sichuan and E Xizang.

Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting from June to August.

Taxonomic notes: — Onosma maaikangensis is distinct from other species of Onosma in SW China in having the combination of coherent and included anthers, filaments with expended triangular base and densely papillate nutlets with footed hilum.
