Redescription. Length 11.1–11.4 mm, width 7.8–8.2 mm. General color ( Figs 43D–43F View FIGURE 43 ) yellow; antennae brown except antennomeres VI–XI black; pronotum with one wide transverse dark band; elytral suture black; thoracic and abdominal ventrites dark brown; legs dark brown except tibiae yellowish brown. Antennae filiform in males ( Fig. 62A View FIGURE62 ), antennomeres III longest, III–VII slightly serrate, VIIII–XI elongate, length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.4: 1.2: 1.1: 0.9: 0.8: 0.7: 0.7: 0.7: 0.6: 1.0, length to width ratios of antennomeres in males I–XI 2.0: 1.7: 3.0: 2.7: 2.5: 2.2: 2.0: 2.0: 2.1: 2.0: 2.9; similar in females ( Fig. 62B View FIGURE62 ), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.6: 0.9: 0.9: 0.9: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.7: 0.7: 0.8, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.6: 1.9: 2.9: 3.1: 2.8: 2.5: 2.7: 2.0: 2.1: 2.0: 2.9. Pronotum transverse, 2.3x wider than long, disc convex but sides flattened, without reticulate microsculpture but with fine punctures, baso-lateral angles broadly rounded, apico-lateral angles rectanguar, lateral margins rounded, apical margin moderately concave. Elytra elongate oval, widest at middle, 1.2x longer than wide, disc without reticulate microsculpture but with dense, fine punctures; moderately convex, epipleurae located 2/3 distance between suture and lateral margins; humeral calli visible, with curved depressions laterally. Penis ( Figs 62C–62G View FIGURE62 ) elongate, 8.2x longer than wide; parallel-sided; apex of dorsal surface medially slightly depressed; tectum reduced; slightly curved in lateral view, apex of dorsal surface rounded, apex of ventral surface hooked, deep notch located between dorsal and ventral surface; ventral surface apically bifurcate, apex hooked, with longitudinal membranous area from near apex to base; endophallic sclerite complex comprising one pair of hooked sclerites at base, curved in lateral view. Apical margin of abdominal ventrite V in female concave, truncate or slightly convex at middle. Gonocoxae reduced. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 62H View FIGURE62 ) transverse and well sclerotized, apical margin rounded but truncate at middle, with short setae along apical margin, medially denser; spiculum short and broad. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 62I View FIGURE62 ) as wide as pump, connected to pump, basally narrowed; pump strongly curved; proximal spermathecal duct connected to receptacle, elongate with broad sclerotized area apically, covered with transverse grooves.

Diagnosis. Members of this species are similar to those of Oides maculata (Olivier) and the O. tarsata species group but are easily recognized by the darker pronotum and black suture of the elytra. In males, the aedeagi of O. scutellata differ from those of other species in possessing a deep separation between the dorsal and ventral surfaces (without separation or weakly separated in others).

Host plants. Vitaceae : grapevine ( Mishra et al. 1979; Joshi & Gupta 1988).
