TYPE LOCALITY: Argentina, Mendoza Prov., La Paz .

DISTRIBUTION: Arid plains of Mendoza Prov. ( Argentina).

COMMENT: Formerly placed in a separate genus, Tympanoctomys , by Yepes, 1940, Rev. Inst. Bact., 9: 569, and Cabrera, 1961:516, but Packard, 1967, in Anderson and Jones, p. 278, considered it congeneric with Octomys .
