Nodicornis wiedemanni Rondani, 1843 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1843d: 46 (as “ Wiedmani ”).
TYPE LOCALITY: Wiedemann (in Meigen 1824: 72) gave no type locality in the original description of Sybistroma nodicornis , but presumably it is Europe because the work deals with European species.
TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Sybistroma nodicornis Wiedemann View in CoL in Meigen, 1824 ( Negrobov 1991: 81, Yang et al. 2006: 202).
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1843d: 46) key for the new genus Nodicornis Rondani, 1843 identified Sybistroma nodicornis Wiedemann, 1824 as the type species. Having used the species’ epithet to nominate the new genus and thinking that Nodicornis nodicornis was incorrect, Rondani erroneously substituted it with Nodicornis wiedmani . This latter name has always been considered as a synonym of Sybistroma nodicornis ( Bezzi 1903: 314, Kertész 1909b: 246, Becker 1917: 251, Negrobov 1991: 81, Yang et al. 2006: 202), and never as a valid species. The type material for Nodicornis wiedemanni will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Sybistroma nodicornis . Wiedemann (in Meigen 1824: 72) reported the types in the “Kaiserl. Königl. Museum”, now Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien (NHMW); Pont (1986c: 204) stated that Meigen’s types in the NHMW were destroyed in 1848. There is a specimen of Sybistroma nodicornis labeled as holotype in the MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020). Rondani’s original description (1843d: 46) used “ Wiedmani ”, which is considered a misspelling (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 32.5.1). Negrobov (1991: 81), Brooks (2005: 113) and Yang et al. (2006: 202) used the correct name “ wiedemanni ”.
