2. Neurolaena sect. Brevipaleae Turner (1982: 121) .

Type species:— Neurolaena macrophylla Greenmann (1904: 118) ( Figs. 1 , 3 ; Tab. 2 ).

Diagnosis: —Ratio of paleae–disc corolla length equal to or less than 1.

Geographic distribution: — Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Nicaragua. We document the first occurrence of a species from this section in Colombia with the description of N. curtipalea ( Figs. 1 , 3 ).
