Redescription. FEMALE ( Figs. 29–32 View FIGURE 29 View FIGURE 30 View FIGURE 31 View FIGURE 32 ). Length of idiosoma 340, width 130. Gnathosoma ( Fig. 30 View FIGURE 30 A, B). Palptarsus with three eupathidia (ul’ eupathidion-like). Subcapitular setae n subequal to m and distinctly longer than subequal or 1-2. Idiosomal dorsum ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 A). Hysterosoma with transverse furrows between setal rows d-e, e-f and h-ps, respectively. Setae ve and sci pointed and smooth, other dorsal idiosomal setae blunt-ended and weakly barbed. Cupules im situated laterally to setae e, cupules ip situated posterolaterally to setae f 1 and anteromedially to setae f 2. Idiosomal venter ( Fig. 29 View FIGURE 29 B). Setae ps 2 and ad 2 blunt-ended, weakly barbed; other ventral setae pointed. Genital area with 4–5 pairs of simple aggenital setae and 3–4 pairs of genital setae ( Fig. 30 View FIGURE 30 C). Cupules ia situated anterolaterally to setae 3 a near lateral margin of body; cupules ih situated anterolaterally to setae ps 3. Material examined. Six female paratypes, USA, leaf trash, Sanburn, Johnson County, 111, 20 September 1949, Coll. P.W. Smith and L.J. Stannard.
Remarks. Most of the studied paratypes are in bad condition and this redescription is based on a less damaged specimen.
Delfinado and Baker (1974) synonymized the genus Neotydeus to Scolotydaeus but it was later revived by Seeman and Walter (1999), pending more comprehensive study. In my opinion Neotydeus considerably differs from Scolotydaeus by the absence of eyes, presence of only two pairs of genital acetabulae and non-bifurcate unguinal setae on tarsi II–IV.
