Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Java ( Indonesia) east to Philippines and Vanuatu, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on steep seaward reef dropoffs, 6–50 m depth. Marine.
