Myobia nupera Rondani, 1861 View in CoL

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 50.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ forêt de Fontainebleau [Fontainebleau Forest ( France)]” ( Macquart 1854: 442) [type locality for M. nupera Macquart, 1854 ].

TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Picconia incurva ( Zetterstedt, 1844) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 166) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 50) moved Tachina vetusta Meigen, 1824 to the genus Myobia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 and proposed the new replacement name Myobia nupera for Myobia vetusta Macquart, 1854 , preoccupied by Meigen (1824: 347). The type material for Myobia nupera will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i.e., Myobia vetusta . There is no type for this latter species in the MHNL (O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019), MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020) or OUMNH (Z. Simmons, pers. comm., 2019) where Macquart’s collections are preserved. Under the name Myobia vetusta there are two males (non-types) in the MZUF. Herting (1969: 197) stated “the identity of Macquart’s species is doubtful and consequently also the meaning of the name given by Rondani”.
