HOLOTYPE: AMNH 654598 About AMNH , adult sex?, collected at Point Torment , 17.01S, 123.35E ( Johnstone and Storr, 2004: 512), King Sound, Western Australia, Australia, on 23 March 1911, by J.P. Rogers (no. 1452). From the Mathews Collection (no. 8691) via the Rothschild Collection. GoogleMaps
COMMENTS: Mathews cited his catalog number of the holotype in the original description. In addition to Rogers’ original label, the specimen also bears Mathews and Rothschild type labels. Paratypes, all collect- ed at Point Torment by Rogers between December 1910 and April 1911, are: AMNH 654599–654609 (Mathews nos. 8215–8217, 8437–8439, 8607, 8608, and 8692–8694).
Mathews published the name M. a. tormenti on 18 September 1912, subsequent to his publication of M. a. melvillensis on 2 April 1912 ( Schodde and Dickinson, 2005).
