Basionym: Omphalodes mexicana S.Watson, Proc. Amer Acad. Arts 25 (1890: 158).

Lectotype, designated by Nesom (1988: 30):— MEXICO. Nuevo León: in the Sierra Madre near Monterrey, fissures of dry limerock, 27 June 1888, C. G. Note: Watson neither indicated a herbarium for the material seen in the protologue, nor did he leave a note on any of the specimens seen by the authors. Nesom (1988) suggested that the specimen in GH should be the holotype, but this needs to be corrected to the designation of a lectotype (Art. 7.10, McNeill et al. 2012). The isolectotype from E was annotated in 2005 by R.R. Mill as “ Mimophytum mexicanum ”, but the name has not been published.
