Milesia digitata Rondani, 1865 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1865a: 132.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino [Apennines ( Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (missing left hind-leg, abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) ( MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic!] Mgn / digitata Rndn. , ♂ / 94 / lectotype ♂, Spilomyia digitata (Rondani, 1865) , design. J. van Steenis, 1998 .
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (covered with mold, missing left fore- and both hind-legs, terminalia in a microvial pinned below specimen) ( MZUF: Box 3): Milesia Ltr. Spylomyia [sic!] Mgn / digitata Rndn. , ♂ / 94.
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♂ ( OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box 39): syntype / Type / M. digitata Ex. Coll. Bigot / M. digitata ♂ Italia, Rond .
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Spilomyia digitata View in CoL ( Peck 1988: 213, Belcari et al. 1995a: 18, Steenis 2000: 147).
REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 132) described Milesia digitata from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens. Steenis (2000: 147) incorrectly stated that Rondani described both sexes of Spilomyia digitata and designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotypes (1 ♂, 2 ♀♀) in the MZUF. He did not mention an additional male in the OUMNH (this additional specimen is a paralectotype). The two MZUF females numbered “94”, and considered by Steenis (2000: 147) as paralectotypes, do not belong to the type series because of their sex.
