ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 42.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, 1 ♀, syntypes (couple pinned together) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea - Gen. Grallomya a Celiphus ): Micropeza formicaria Rnd. , Chili [= Chile] / M. Zool. N° 11468 .

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Cryogonus formicarius ( Steyskal 1968a: 2) View in CoL .

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 42) described Micropeza formicaria , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 35) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Micropeza formicaria Phil. ) numbered “748”. We found two syntypes in this study.
