= Microgramma tecta (Kaulf.) Alston var. nana (Liebm.) Mickel & Beitel, Mem. View in CoL New York Bot. Gard. 46: 251. 1988.

Range: —Southern Mexico through Mesoamerica to southeastern Venezuela and Guyana, Suriname, northern Brazil, and along the eastern side of the Andes from Colombia to Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, PA, SC).

Ecology: —Fairly common; epiphytic, often on twigs of bushes and in the outer tree canopy, in humid forests; 200–1400 m.

Notes: —This taxon was previously recognized as a variety of Microgramma tecta , a species endemic to eastern Brazil. It is being recognized here as a distinct species based on differences in the indument and geographic distribution ( Almeida 2014, Almeida et al. in prep.). Microgramma nana can be distinguished from M. tecta by its subulate blade scales, these usually geniculate, rarely applanate (vs. blade scales with triangular bases and lanceate tips, applanate) and hairlike paraphyses (vs. lanceolate paraphyses).
