Replaced name:— Miconia anderssonii Wurdack (1982: 66) . Type:— ECUADOR. Cotopaxi: trail from El Corazón to Facundo Vela 1–3 km south of El Corazón, elev. 1300–1400m, 17 May 1980, G.Harling & L.Andersson 19235 (holotype US! [ US 00120856], isotype GB), non Miconia andersonii Fawcett & Rendle (1926: 104) .

Miconia anderssonii Wurdack must be considered as a later homonym of Miconia andersoni Fawc. & Rendle. Although the epithets have a slightly different spelling, there is the high likelihood of these two names being confused ( McNeill et al. 2006; ICBN Art. 53.3).

Miconia andersonii View in CoL occurs only in Grenada and St. Vincent, in the Lesser Antilles ( Howard 1989, Michelangeli & Bécquer-Granados 2012), while M. lennartanderssonii View in CoL is endemic to Ecuador ( Wurdack 1980). An image of the type of M. lennartanderssonii View in CoL is available at the US Herbarium site (http://botany.si.edu/ types /). With this new name we preserve Wurdack’s intention of naming the species in honor of the late Lennart Andersson.
