Derivatio nominis. The species is named after Maël Dewynter (Office National des Forêts, Guyane Française), biologist, naturalist, and supporter of our biodiversity project.
Diagnosis. L. 55–70 mm, D. 2.5– 3 mm. No. segments 92–113. Brown-violet color on dorsum pale on ventrum. Clitellum ½16–½26 saddle shaped. Tubercles long bands on ½21–½26. Muscular gizzard in 6, calciferous glands composite-tubular, eight pairs in 7–14. Typhlosole moderate, ribbed tube. Hearts in 10–11, oesophageal. Testes and funnels in 10, 11, enclosed in perioesophageal testis sacs. Seminal vesicles in 11, 12, large. Spermathecae three pairs in 6/7–8/9, elongated, sac-shaped.
External characters. Holotype, length 64 mm, diameter 3 mm, number of segments 92. Paratypes, length 55– 70 mm, diameter 2.5–3.5 mm, number of segments 92–113. Brown-violet color dorsally and paler ventrally. Prostomium prolobous, usually with protruding proboscis. Setae ab and cd begin from segment 3 and 5, respectively, closely paired; setal arrangement after the clitellum aa:ab:bc:cd:dd = 10:2:11:1:40. Setae ab of segments 7, 20, 24 modified to genital setae. Nephropores in the setal line d. Spermathecal pores three pairs in 6/7–8/ 9 in setal line c. Female pores on the rim of segment 15 near 14/ 15 in setal line a. Male pores on the tubercles in 21/22. Clitellum on ½16–½26 saddle-shaped, tubercula pubertatis as yellowish bands on ½21–½26 ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Genital seta from segment 20 of the Holotype 1.25 mm long, 0.06 mm in diameter, spear-shaped with 7–8 crescentic indentations ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ).
Internal characters. All septa membranous. Crop large somewhat folded in 4–5, strong muscular gizzard in 6. Eight pairs of composite-tubular calciferous glands attached to the oesophagus in 7–14. The first tree glands in 7–9 moderately large, kidney-shaped with medial appendix ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 a), the next two in 10–11 smaller with apical appendix, and the last three larger again and almost straight with apical appendix ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 b). Intestine begins in 18 or 19, typhlosole ribbed tube protruding ca. one third into the intestine’s cavity. Vascular system with a simple ventral trunk and a dorsal trunk, moniliform between 14–18. Three pairs of lateral commissures in 7–9 and two pairs of large oesophageal hearts in 10, 11. Excretory system holoic with simple praeseptal nephrostoma and asymmetric biramous nephridial bladders. Ovaries not found, ovarial funnels small in 14, ovarial duct moderately thick running ventrally to 14/15. Two pairs of testes and funnels in 10, 11 enclosed in perioesophageal testis sacs. Vesicles large in 11, 12. Spermathecae three pairs in 7–9 with size increasing backwards. They consist of a large oval ampoule and a small but distinct duct ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ).
Remarks. The new species resembles M. (B) helleri ( Michaelsen, 1918) , however, differs from it in the position of the clitellum and tubercles ( Table 1 View TABLE 1 ) and furthermore by its smaller size (55–70 by 2.5–3.5 mm in M. (B.) dewynteri vs. 135 by 4 mm in M. (B.) helleri ).
