Macrotomoderus ater nom. nov.

Macrotomoderus niger Uhmann, 1993: 396 (not Macrotomoderus niger Pic, 1943c: 11 )

Notes

Pic (1943c) described Macrotomoderus niger from "Bornéo" (without further data), while Uhmann (1993: 396) later described another M. niger from Kinabalu National Park (Borneo, Malaysia). Both species are known only from the original descriptions. This Pic species and Macrotomoderus minor Pic, 1934 from Vietnam ( Pic 1934b: 28) were overlooked and not included in the identification key of this genus ( Uhmann 1993). The replacement name Macrotomoderus ater nom. nov. is here proposed for M. niger Uhmann , and is based on the Latin word for black (" ater ").

Telnov (2007b) synonymised Derarimus Bonadona, 1978 with Macrotomoderus Pic, 1901 .

Derarimus bidens Uhmann was included in the key of Uhmann (1994a) without mentioning any collection data, with its formal description appearing five years later ( Uhmann 1999). Derarimus bidens Uhmann, 1994 a is an available name (Article 13.1.1), so D. bidens Uhmann, 1999 is here placed in synonymy. This species has been subsequently cited only by Telnov (2004, as D. bidens Uhmann, 1999 ).

Notes

Derarimus flavicornis Uhmann was characterized in the key of Uhmann (1994a) in the same manner as D. bidens (see above), but it was formally described two years later ( Uhmann 1996a). Derarimus flavicornis Uhmann, 1994 a is an available name (Article 13.1.1), so D. flavicornis Uhmann, 1996 a is here placed as its synonym.

Notes

Derarimus minor Uhmann was identified in a key, without mentioning any collection locality data, by Uhmann (1994a), but its formal description ( Uhmann 1994b) appears a bit later ([30] September and 27th October, respectively). The type locality is in Malaysia ( Uhmann 1994b). Derarimus minor Uhmann, 1994 a is an available name (Article 13.1.1), so D. minor Uhmann, 1994 b is here placed in synonymy.

Pic (1943b) described Macrotomoderus minor from Hoa Binh ( Vietnam). Telnov (2007b) synonymised Derarimus with Macrotomoderus , so D. minor Uhmann is a junior secondary homonym of Pic's species. The replacement name Macrotomoderus sandokan nom. nov. is here proposed for D. minor Uhmann, 1994 a and is named as a noun in apposition for Sandokan , "the tiger of Malaysia ", E. Salgari's hero who fought against the Dutch and British Empires.
