Basionym: Navicula lyra var. atlantica A. Schmidt (1874b: 89 , pl. 1, fig. 34)

Valves linear with parallel to slightly concave margins, length 55–100 µm, breadth 25–32 µm. Raphe straight, external central endings relatively approximate, axial area narrow, linear, central area small, transversely rectangular, connected to lateral areas. Lateral areas narrow in the middle weakly constricted, narrowed towards apices, terminating below apices. Transapical striae punctate, in the middle parallel, towards apices becoming radiate, 10 in 10 µm.

Distribution: —Marine species, frequent in the northern hemisphere ( Witkowski et al. 2000). Black Sea, North-western region ( Guslyakov & Nevrova 1998, Guslyakov et al. 1992), Romania ( Bodeanu 1987 –1988, Caraus 2002); Crimean ( Proshkina-Lavrenko 1963a, Guslyakov & Nevrova 1998, Nevrova 1999 a, 2010, Nevrova & Revkov 2003, Nevrova et al. 2003) and Caucasian coast ( Nevrova 1999b).
