Lispa leucospyla Rondani, 1866 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 210 (key), 213 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie propepadana parmensi [ Parmese plains near the Po Valley ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing head) ( MZUF: Box 26): Lispe Latr. / leucospyla Rnd. , Parma / 1397; 1 ♂, syntype (completely covered with mold) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Lispa sexpunctata Rnd. 538 ♂ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 6, posiz. G-21 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Lispe melaleuca Loew, 1847 ( Pont 1986b: 188, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 15).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 213) described Lispa leucospyla from four males: “ Mascula quatuor legi [I collected four males]”. We found all the syntypes in this study. Rondani (1866a: 213) listed Lispa “ sexpunctata olim. (in litt.)” [= manuscript name] directly under his Lispa leucospyla , which means it is being treated as a synonym. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Lispa ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Lispe Latreille, 1797 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 106).
