Levu psittacus Zelazny , sp. nov.

Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length in male 3.0– 3.4 mm (mean = 3.2, n= 4). Colour stramineous to light brown. Forewings white, powdered; a brown mark at M-Ms4 fork; very faintly infuscated around first subcostal sector and distad of clavus apex, extremely faint marks near bases of Ms1 and Ms2, and around apical cross-veins. Rostrum surpassing post-trochanter; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae. Forewings with Sc+R fork just before middle of wing; Ms1 branched near apex of basal median cell, a triangle at base of Ms1. The left, but not the right forewing of the holotype shows an abnormal venation in that the apex of R is not branched, Figure 172f. Male genital styles rounded; proximal dorsal process broad and short, distal dorsal process very short, pointed, and curved forward. Apical portion of aedeagus broad and blunt; on the right side, a flat, dorsal lobe.

Etymology. The species name is a Latin noun ( psittacus = a parrot) used in apposition.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.2 mm), SOLOMON ISL.; labels: 1) SOLOMON IS./ KOLOMBANG- ARA/ Pepele, 30m. / 13.II.1964 2) P. Shanahan / Collector / BISHOP 3 ) Malaise Trap / BISHOP ( BPBM) . Paratypes. SOLOMON ISL.: same data as holotype, 7, 13.II.1964, 3 ♂ (fw. 3.2, 3.4) ; Choiseul Isl. , Kitipi R., 80m, 13. III.1964, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.0) , Malaise trap, P. Shanahan (all BPBM).

Distribution. Solomon Islands.

Diagnosis. Levu psittacus is indistinguishable externally from Levu shanahani sp. nov., also from the Solomons. The males can be recognized by the very short and pointed distal dorsal process on the genital styles.
