Lanistes pilsbryi Walker, 1925: 5 View in CoL , pl. 1, fig. 1. Type material — holotype [by original designation]: UMMZ 93278; paratypes: UMMZ 93279 (5 spms.), ANSP 134963 (1 spm.), NMW.Z.1981.118.00289 (1 spm.). Type locality —“So River, Ebolowa, Cameroon ”. Distribution —no additional information.
Lanistes plicosus Martens, 1879: 191 View in CoL , pl. 156, figs. 3–5. Type material — syntype: SMF 7464 (1 spm.). Type locality —[no locality given].
Remarks. Zanzibar given as locality by Kobelt (1881: 52). Synonym of intorta Lamarck and of grasseti Morelet, teste G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 66) and Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 194), respectively. The name plicatus Kobelt (1909: 79) is here considered a lapsus calami and unavailable.

Type material — lectotype ( Köhler & Glaubrecht 2006: 208, fig. 3c): ZMB 109533a; paralectotypes ZMB 109533b (2 spms.), ZMB 43369 (2 spms.), SMF 7464 (1 spm.). Type locality —“zwischen Tabora und Tanganyika” [between Tabora and [Lake] Tanganyika, Tanzania] [“Tanga” on lectotype label; Köhler & Glaubrecht 2006: 208]. Distribution —no additional information.
Remarks. By designating the lectotype, Köhler & Glaubrecht (2006: 208) restricted the type locality; paralectotypes are also from “Ilindi in Ugogo”. Described as new (“n.”) by Martens (1897a: 167) and not intended as the same taxon as plicosus Martens, 1879 , as recognized by Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 194), although Kobelt (1911: 12) synonymized them. Junior primary homonym of plicosus Martens, 1879 . No replacement name provided here, pending further research.
Lanistes olivaceus var. procerus Martens, 1866: 292 View in CoL , pl. 71, figs. 1, 2. Type material — lectotype ( Köhler & Glaubrecht 2006: 210, fig. 3e): ZMB 8570a; paralectotypes: FMNH 108038 (2 spms.), ZMB 8570b. Type locality —“localité inconnue” [unknown].
Remarks. Variety of olivacea G.B. Sowerby I , teste Paetel (1887: 480), Dupuis & Putzeys (1902: 58) and Kobelt (1909: 79, 1911: 6). Synonym of olivacea G.B. Sowerby I , teste Paetel (1888: 481), G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 68) and Connolly (1939: 557). Subspecies of ovum Troschel , teste Haas (1936: 36). Valid species, teste Germain (1907b: 116, 1907d: 531) and Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 197). Synonym of ovum Troschel , teste Mandahl-Barth (1968: 31) and Brown (1980: 52, 1994: 63), followed here.
