Lainius Navás 1913: 300 . Type species: Lainius constellatus Navás, 1913: 300 .
Diagnosis. Antennal pedicel constricted basally; both wings with numerous cross-veins throughout; forewing subcostal veinlets with four or more irregular rows of cross-veins in basal half of wing, 1–2 regular rows in distal half; numerous irregular cross-veins between RA and RP in forewing; forewing RP sigmoid in shape; no cross-veins between RA and RP behind pterostigma in both wings; forewing with numerous conspicuous pustules of varying size in discal area, two small pustules in hind wing; pterostigma with a small dark spot in both wings; both wings with gradate series obscured by irregular cross-veins; Psc extending greater than 3/4 of total wing length towards apex; forewing cell c 2 short and broad, poorly defined due to numerous cross-veins; 1A and 2A forked; posterior marginal area of both wings with multiple semi-regular rows of cross-veins, cross-veins absent in distal third; spermatheca with lateral striations, spermathecal duct long, tightly coiled.
Included species. Lainius constellatus Navás, 1913 ( Guatemala) ; L. decoratas Navás, 1930 (northern South America).
