- Laccobius (Hydroxenus) revelieri Perris, 1864 View in CoL
Hebauer (1997) reported a doubtful record of L. revelieri from Egypt. In North Africa, the species is known only from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia ( Hebauer 2006; Fikáček et al. 2015; Przewoźny and Fikáček 2016).
- Laccobius (Laccobius) minutus ( Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL
Walker (1871), Peyerimhoff (1907), Alfieri (1976), and Salman (1996) reported the occurrence of L. minutus View in CoL in Egypt. The species is common and widely distributed throughout the northern Palearctic region, especially in Europe and central and northern Asia (Gentili and Chiesa 1976; Hansen 1987, 1999; Fikáček et al. 2015; Przewoźny and Fikáček 2016). The species is absent from Africa ( Hansen 1999; Hebauer 2006; Fikáček et al. 2015).
- Laccobius (Microlaccobius) gracilis Motschulsky, 1855 View in CoL
The occurrence of L. gracilis View in CoL was reported in Egypt by Peyerimhoff (1907, with doubt), Knisch (1921), Crovetti (1966), Alfieri (1976), Hebauer (1994 (Tor and Wadi Isla, Sinai), 1997), and Salman (1996). Laccobius gracilis View in CoL is mainly distributed
throughout the Mediterranean region, reaching central Europe and Iran. It is very rare in central Europe ( Fikáček et al. 2015). Hebauer (2006) did not include L. gracilis in his checklist of the African Hydrophiloidea, even though the species exists in Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia ( Hansen 1999; Fikáček et al. 2015). The presence of this species in Egypt needs confirmation.
- Laccobius (Microlaccobius) orientalis Knisch, 1924
Gentili and Chiesa (1976) reported a doubtful Egyptian record of L. gracilis ssp. orientalis (not L. gracilis Motschulsky , as in Orchymont 1933). The species has an Oriental distribution and was recorded in Tunisia and northern Africa by Touaylia et al. (2011).
- Laccobius (Microlaccobius) eximius Kuwert, 1890
Kuwert (1890a, b), Zaitzev (1908), Knisch (1924a), Alfieri (1976), Gentili and Chiesa (1976), Salman (1996), Hebauer (1997), Hansen (1999, 2004), and Fikáček et al. (2012) reported the occurrence of L. eximius in Egypt. The distribution of L. eximius was unclear due to changes of its taxonomic position by various authors until Fikáček et al. (2010) confirmed it as a distinct species. Fikáček et al. (2010) restored L. eximius from synonymy with L. praecipuus Kuwert, 1890 . Laccobius eximius was described from ‘Hejaz’ and then recorded from various parts of the Arabian Peninsula ( Hebauer 1997, as L. praecipuus ) and Egypt ( Kuwert 1890a), but most of these records require confirmation as they may concern the widespread L. praecipuus . According to Fikáček et al. (2012, 2015), L. eximius occurs only in Saudi Arabia and Yemen ( Socotra).
- Hydrophilus (Hydrophilus) pistaceus Laporte, 1840
Andres (1913b) reported a doubtful record of H. pistaceus from Egypt (Alexandria). The species is distributed in western Europe and North Africa ( Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia) ( Fikáček et al. 2015). The presence of this species in Egypt needs confirmation.
- Sternolophus (Sternolophus) unicolor Laporte, 1840 View in CoL
Knisch (1921) reported a doubtful record of S. unicolor View in CoL from Sinai (Wadi Gergir and Wadi Hebran). He mentioned that S. unicolor View in CoL is widespread throughout central and eastern Africa, and Sinai would probably represent the northern limit of its distribution. According to Hebauer (2006), the species has an Afrotropical distribution and is widely distributed in Madagascar and East Africa.
- Anacaena globulus (Paykull, 1798)
Orchymont (1927), Alfieri (1976), and Salman (1996) reported the presence of A. globulus in Egypt. The Egyptian distribution of this species was not included in Berge Henegouwen (1986), Hansen (2004, 1999), Hebauer (2006), or Fikáček et al. (2015). According to Salman (1996), the species is not represented in any Egyptian collection. Hoewver, the species may be found in Egypt, where it is known from North African countries such as Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia ( Fikáček et al. 2015).
- Chaetarthria seminulum (Herbst, 1797)
Peyerimhoff (1907), Alfieri (1976), Salman (1996) and Hebauer (1997) reported the occurrence of C. seminulum in Egypt. Hebauer (1993) dissected C. seminulum collected from the Sinai Peninsula and compared it with a few specimens from Bavaria. He was surprised to find two clearly different aedeagophores among the Bavarian specimens. The mountain records proved identical with the common and widespread C. seminulum , while the lowland records, as well as the Sinai specimens, had an aedeagophore identical with that of C. similis from the Canary Islands. Hebauer (1993) and Vorst and Cuppen (2003) mentioned that the distribution of C. seminulum is in northern and central Europe, the Balkan Peninsula, and Turkey, and many published records of this species from the Mediterranean region probably refer to C. similis . Recently, Fikáček et al. (2015) included North Africa ( Tunisia) to the distributional list of C. seminulum . The presence of this species in Egypt needs confirmation.
