Diagnosis of male. Length over 3.50 mm; postgenae broadly expanded laterally. Antennomeres 9–11 elongate, unmodified; antennomere 9 much longer than wide. Pronotum with round lateral margins; metaventral processes moderately elongate, apically broadened. Protibiae with small apical spine; mesotrochanters with distinct ventral spine; metacoxae with blunt ventral projection. Aedeagus elongate, median lobe asymmetric at apex, with pointed apex.
Description. Male ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ). Length 3.73–3.91 mm. Head longer than wide, HL 0.86–0.92 mm, HW 0.77– 0.87 mm; postgenae broadly expanded laterally; eyes prominent, each composed of about 32 facets. Antennae with scape (antennomere 1) about 4.0 times as long as wide, antennomeres 2–8 more or less elongate, antennomeres 9– 11 ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ) enlarged, antennomere 9 much longer than wide. Pronotum ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ) slightly longer than wide, PL 0.74–0.76 mm, PW 0.69–0.72 mm, with round lateral margins. Elytra much broader than long, EL 0.8 5– 0.88 mm, EW 1.16–1.26 mm. Metaventral processes ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ) moderately elongate, apically broadened in lateral view. Protrochanters ( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 ) and profemora simple, protibiae ( Fig. 5E View FIGURE 5 ) with small, acute spine at apex; mesotrochanters ( Fig. 5F View FIGURE 5 ) with small, sharp spine at ventral margin, mesofemora simple; metacoxae ( Fig. 5G View FIGURE 5 ) with distinct, blunt ventral projection. Abdomen broad at base and narrowed posteriorly, AL 1.19–1.31 mm, AW 1.06– 1.23 mm; tergite 1 (IV) longest, about twice as long as tergite 2 (V); sternite 7 (IX) as in Fig. 5H View FIGURE 5 . Length of aedeagus ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 I–K) 0.56 mm; median lobe asymmetric, narrowing apically in dorso-ventral view; elongate parameres strongly broadened dorso-ventrally, extending beyond apex of median lobe, rounded at apex; endophallus composed of one elongate and one short sclerite.
Female. Similar to male in general appearance; eyes smaller, each composed of about 32 facets; antennae simple, lacking metaventral processes; mesotrochanters with two distinct spines at ventral margin. Measurements: BL 3.66–3.81 mm, HL 0.83–0.85 mm, HW 0.68–0.69 mm, PL 0.72–0.74 mm, PW 0.71–0.72 mm, EL 0.85–0.88 mm, EW 1.23–1.29 mm, AL 1.26–1.34 mm, AW 1.29–1.40 mm.
Distribution. China: Taiwan.
Etymology. The specific epithet is dedicated to Hroshi Sugaya, who collected a majority of the specimens of the new species.
Comparative notes. The new species is placed as a member of the L. shibatai -group based on the laterally expanded postgenae of the male. It is most similar to L. sichuanicus Hlaváč, Nomura & Zhou from Sichuan in the simple, unmodified antennal club, and similar spination of the legs and configuration of the aedeagus. These two species can be separated by using the following key.
