Labidigaster pauciseta Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 88 (key), 89 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills and plains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♀♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 16): Labidigaster Mcq. / pauciseta Rnd. / 822.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Labigastera pauciseta ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 423, Pape et al. 1995: 31, Cerretti 2010: 532, O’Hara et al. 2020: 592).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 89) described Labidigaster pauciseta from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Foeminas tantum inveni [I found only some females]”, naming the species “ pauciseta ” in his key (p. 88) and description (p. 89) but as “ pauciceta ” in his index (p. 168). Brauer & Bergenstamm (1889: 144), Pandellé (1894: 77) and Bezzi & Stein (1907: 330) did not use “ pauciceta ” thus we consider it as an incorrect original spelling of “ pauciseta ”. We found two female syntypes in this study. An additional MZUF female numbered “822” is not included in the type series because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Labidigaster Macquart, 1844 , which is an “unjustified emendation of Labigastera Macquart, 1834 ” ( Evenhuis et al., 2016: 74).
