Notes:— McVaugh (1944) separated this species in its own subsection Urnigerae in the section Jussieuia . It had previously been included in sect. Calyptrosolen. He argued that the clustered but not verticillate androecium could be an evolutionary link between this taxon and Manihot . This hypothesis was based on the figure provided by Pax (1910). The specific epithet is sometimes written as Cnidoscolus urnigerus , but urniger is the proper epithet because it is the masculine nominative declination of the same word. The holotype in B was probably destroyed; we designate the HBG collection as lectotype.
