12. Impatiens levingei Gamble ex Hooker (1906: 39 View in CoL & 45).

Type citation:—“Gamble”, “Western Ghats, Nilgiri Hills, alt. 6,000 ft. ”

Type:— INDIA. Nilgiris district , Lamb’s rock Shola, 6000 ft., September 1883, Gamble 12365 (lectotype K000694893 !, designated here; isolectotypes MH! Accession no. 7323 and 7324) .

Residual syntype: — Nilgiris district, Lamb’s rock Shola, 6000 ft., October 1889, Gamble 21412 ( CAL!).

Distribution:— India, endemic and rare (Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

Notes:—J.D. Hooker (1906) described Impatiens levingei based on the specimens collected from Nilgiri hills by Gamble. Four specimens from Nilgiri collected by Gamble were traced (CAL, MH [Accession no. 7323 and 7324] and K000694893). The herbarium specimen K000694893 with coloured illustration pasted on the sheet by Gamble is better preserved, more complete in having root, stem, leaves, flowers and capsules than the other three specimens, hence is chosen here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
