Igerna flavocosta Viraktamath & Gonçalves View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs 37 View FIGURES 34 – 41 , 43, 50 View FIGURES 42 – 53 , 61 View FIGURES 54 – 61 , 68 View FIGURES 62 – 69 )

Measurements. Male 3.5 mm long, 1.1 mm wide across eyes.

Head and thorax (color) and morphology. Similar to I. malagasica (see above).

Male genitalia. Pygofer ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 41 ), in lateral view, with posterior margin bearing elongate projection directed dorsally, and abruptly narrowing towards acute apex. Valve ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 41 ) smaller than subgenital plates. Subgenital plates ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 42 – 53 ), in ventral view, fused to valve and to each other along basal portion, narrowed on distal 0.66; apex subacute; in lateral view ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 41 ), extending posteriorly well beyond pygofer, and bearing scattered small setae on ventral margin. Styles ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 42 – 53 ), in dorsal view, well developed, outer fork blunt with subapical projection directed inward and bearing scattered setae, inner fork longer with subapical tooth projection and apex subacute. Connective as in I. malagasica . Aedeagus ( Figs 61 View FIGURES 54 – 61 , 68 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ) asymmetrical; with well developed dorsal apodeme, 0.33 times as long as shaft in lateral view, and prominent ventral projection; shaft, in ventral view, sinuated, straight basally and then slightly directed outward in middle, then straight again; bearing a lateral foliaceous expansions, left side one with crenulate margin and the right one with one tooth ( Fig. 68 View FIGURES 62 – 69 ); gonopore apical, on ventral margin; apex acute. Anal tube ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 41 ), with segment X simple, without any process; segment XI with well developed tooth on lateroventral margin.

Type material. MADAGASCAR: HOLOTYPE: 3, Province d’Antsiranana, Parc National Montagne, d’Ambre, el. 1125 m, 14–30 May 2001, 12o31’13”S, 49o10’45”E, California Acad. of Science, R. Harin’Hala Collector, Malaise trap, MA-01-01D-11 (CAS).

Etymology. The species name alludes to the flavous color on the forewing costal margin.

Remarks. Igerna flavocosta , I. malagasica sp. nov. and I. neosa (Webb) belong to a more homogeneous group along with some of the species described by Distant (1917) from Seychelles Islands under the genus Nehela White. Despite the fact that they share similar features of male genitalia, I. flavocosta differs from these by: having a very elongate projection on the male pygofer; bearing lateral foliaceous expansion on aedeagus which also has an acute apex; and having a well developed spiniform process on segment X.
