Taxonomic history. Morley (1915) transferred Ichneumon cognatorius to Hadrojoppa Cameron, 1902a ; then, Uchida (1930a) synonymised Hadrojoppa with Protichneumon Thomson, 1893 ; finally, Uchida (1935) transferred cognatoria to Amblyjoppa Cameron, 1902b .
Current taxonomy. Amblyjoppa cognatoria ( Smith, 1874) ( Ichneumonidae : Ichneumoninae : Heresiarchini ).
Type number. Type 3b.36. Specimen # NHMUK010634915 About NHMUK
Type status. Lectotype, designated by Townes et al. (1965).
Sex. Male.
Type locality. Hyôgo Prefecture, Honshû, Japan.
Label data. First label, ‘Type’ (round label, with red margin; printed); second label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./3b.36’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third line handwriting); third label, ‘74/16’ (round label; handwriting); fourth label, ‘B.M. TYPE /HYM./ Ichneumon / cognatorius/ Smith 1874 ’ (square label; first and second lines printed and third to fifth lines handwriting); fifth label, ‘ I. cognatorius /Type ♂ Sm.’ (square label; handwriting); sixth label, ‘ LECTOTYPE / Ichneumon cognatorius Sm. ♂ /des. Townes et al. 1965: 534 /( Amblyjoppa ) (Labelled by/C. O’Toole 5.ix. 1988)/ PARALECTOTYPE IN OUM’ (square label; printed).
Condition. Good, but right antenna missing after 31st flagellomere, left antenna and right hind tarsus lost.
Remarks. The only specimen from the type series in NHMUK is a female labelled ‘var 2 ♂ ’.
