REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 181) described Hylemyia spinosa from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel marem legi [I found the male once]”. Hennig (1970b: 416) reported the holotype in the MZUF. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Hylemyia ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Hylemya Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 or subsequent usage of Hylemyia Macquart, 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 99).
