Thirteen aquatic beetle taxa in four families were found during our surveys. Gutiérrez- Fonsec et al. (2013) reported 12 families from Puerto Rico. Previous surveys in the Caribbean yielded the following additional species that may occur potentially in the US Virgin Islands. Haliplus gravidus Aubé, 1838 is known from several Caribbean Islands, including Puerto Rico ( von Vondel and Spangler 2008). The dystiscid Laccomimus bordoni Toledo and Michat, 2015 is reported from a pool at Bethlehem on St. Croix. The dytiscid genera Pachydrus and Celina are reported from Puerto Rico ( Wolcott 1948a), and Cybister , Hydaticus , Derovatellus , Hydrovatus , Desmopachria, Andochelilus , Bidessonotus , Brachyvatus , Liodessus , Neobidessus , and Uvaris all have representatives in the Caribbean ( Miller and Bergsten 2016). The hydrophilid Enochorus pygmaeus (Fabricius, 1792) is reported from St. Croix ( Short 2004), E. pseudochraceus Gundersen, 1977 from Caneel Bay, St. John, three species of Hydrochus are known from Puerto Rico ( Wolcott 1948a; Hellman 1975), and several Berosus and two Derallus have been reported from the ‘West Indies’ ( van Tassell 1966; Short and Torres 2006; Deler-Hernández et al. 2013). Platenberg (2006) also listed Berosus spp. associated with salt ponds and ghuts in either St. Thomas or St, John, but provided no further details. The noterid genus Pachydrus has several representative in the Caribbean as well, and Heterocerus (Heteroceridae) , which needs revision, is known from St. Thomas ( Leng and Mutchler 1914). Among the Gyrinidae , both Dineutus and Gyrinus are known from Puerto Rico, and Elmidae , Ptiliidae , Limnichidae , Scirtidae , Lampyridae , Scarabaeidae , Noteridae and Staphylinidae are reported from there as well ( Wolcott 1948b; Gutiérrez-Fonsec et al. 2013).
