29. Hyalosynedra lanceolata Belando, Jiménez & Aboal ( Figs 69–72 View FIGURES 69–77 , 187 View FIGURES 185–192 , 198, 199 View FIGURES 193–202 )
Type locality: Mar Menor Lagoon, El Ciervo Island , SE Spain .
Reference: Belando et al. 2018, p. 3, figs 1–25.
Morphometrics: Valves 65–217 (21–266) μm long, and 3–5 (1–4) μm wide, transapical striae unresolved in LM, 52 (47–52) n 10 μm in SEM.
Remarks: Hyalosynedra lanceolata is closely similar in valve morphology to Hyalosynedra laevigata (Grunow) Williams , but differs from in two features above all others, biseriate striae, and narrow valve width (2.8–4.5 vs 5–7 μm). Sabir et al. (2018) noted that the striae of H. laevigata are biseriate, but it is assumed that the striae appear to be paired due to closing bars across the areolae or missing of closing layer on the areolae. This taxon was reported from type locality, Mar Menor Lagoon in the Mediterranean, yet not in the other places. It is so morphologically close to H. laevigata that their habitats or distribution are expected to be same each other, in the Mediterranean and some warmer oceans such as Florida and the Caribbean Sea, like H. laevigata . It is probably distributed from tropical to subtropical coasts. This taxon is encountered frequently as an epiphyte in the lagoon and pseudo-lagoons along the Seogwipo coast, representing a new record to South Korea.
