[ Holotype: CASC; ♂ La Quinta, west of Indio , Riverside Co., California, USA; March 4, 1936]

Hoplitis pygmaea specializes on pollen from Cryptantha Lehm. ex G. Don ( Boraginaceae ) ( Fowler 2020). This species inhabits the warm deserts of the southwestern USA and BC. We examined one male collected in the Central Desert in April 1976 (EMEC). See fig. 253.
