This specimen is here designated the lectotype: [white, outlined in red, typeset] ‘ LECTOTYPE / Homalochilus/ punctatostriatus View in CoL / Blanchard 1851 /[des.] M. A. Cherman 2015 ’.
According to Gutierrez (1952) the primary type of Astaena bicolor View in CoL should be at ZMHB, but we were unable to locate it in that collection.

Diagnosis
Length: 7.6–9.8 mm; width: 4.0– 5.1 mm. Body, head, and pronotum black, elytra on disc red and on margins black; glabrous ( Fig. 5A View Figure 5 ); fovea of distal maxillary palpomere extending past the midline; club of antenna as long as the funicle; pronotal posterior corners obtuse angulate; distance between mesocoxae and metacoxae as long as the metacoxae; elytra near 1.5 times longer than the pronotum ( Fig. 5D View Figure 5 ); four elytral ridges, the outermost less noticeable; protarsomere I slightly shorter than protarsomere II in both sexes; pygidium subquadrate ( Fig. 5E View Figure 5 ); parameres with apex curved downwards, forming obtuse angle with the longitudinal axis ( Fig. 5G, H View Figure 5 ).
