Hoffeinsodes hoffeinsi ( Wagner 2006) View in CoL comb. nov.

(Figs 4e–f, 8e)

Etymology. Dedication name to Hans-Werner and Christel Hoffeins

Diagnosis. Hoffeinsodes species with greatly enlarged epandrium with long lateral tips, gonopods reduced in size.

Material. Holotype male, no. 992 in coll. Hoffeins.

Geological stratum. Baltic amber.

State of preservation. Specimen well conserved, head, thorax and abdomen recognizable; palpi and antennae complete; at least one of the leg pairs complete; no syninclusions.

Description. See Wagner (2006).

Comments. The description of abdomen and genitalia for this species by Wagner (2006) requires the following additions and corrections: abdomen with 8 segments and inverted genitalia, inversion by segments 7 and 8; epandrium basally split nearly in half with only a narrow median connection, lateral parts slightly sinuous, tapered apically; proctiger is a dorsal, slightly sclerotized roughly T-shaped structure emerging from lightly sclerotized lateral parts of the epandrium, fused medially; cerci conspicuous, setose.

A dorsal view of the cross sclerite indicates pairs of lateral gonostyli, parameres, and a single median sclerite. The denomination of individual or respective sclerites remains questionable, because the base of these structures is not clearly visible. If the lateral structures are gonostyli, as in congeneric species the broader more medial pair are likely parameres and the unpaired median sclerite is part of the aedeagus. Regardless, morphological differences are sufficient to distinguish H. hoffeinsi from congeners.
