Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell during 7–28 June 2014; previously misidentified as Scarus harid (non Forsskål in Niebuhr , 1775) from Tigak Islands , Kavieng by Wright & Richards (1985: 73); a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Marshall, Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. In groups over sand in lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 0–40 m depth. Marine.
