Hilara deryae View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 1–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 )
Diagnosis. Large species, body about 4.8–5.5 mm long, completely black with dark grey and brownish dusted. Antenna, haltere and palpus black. Legs entirely black, male fore basitarsus ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) swollen, apical half dorsally with 5–7 bristles. Wing with brownish clouding with contrasting black veins. Hilara deryae differs from all species of the H. clavipes species-group on the basis of the shape of the lateral lamella (epandrium) ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) and the clawshaped apical process.
Description. Male. Frons and face wide, face with grey dusting, frons dull black with brownish grey pruinescence and subshining small oval area at middle. Occiput dull, dark grey to blackish grey with brownish grey dusting. Lateral half of occiput dull black in profile, upper side behind ocelli dusted brownish, in dorsal view dusted in dark brownish grey. Pair of ocellar and frontal bristles long and strong, ocellar bristles as long as 3rd antennal segment (postpedicel) without stylus, frontal bristles shorter than ocellar pair. Occipital bristles black, bristles on upper half as long as frontal bristles, lower half with rather short and thin, brownish black hairs. Antenna black, stylus nearly half length of long 3rd antennal segment (postpedicel). Palpus black, grey dusted, apical tip brownish yellow, ventrally with black fine hairs and long preapical bristle as long as ocellar bristles. Labrum shiny black, scarcely shorter than height of head.
Thorax dark grey dusted. Pleura lighter grey dusted than scutum. Scutum darker brownish dusted, lateral margins of scutum and whole scutellum with dark grey dusting, in anterior view with indication of 2 slightly visible black stripes, in posterior view area between dorsocentral bristles with brownish dusting, outer part of dorsocentrals dull black except for grey dusted humeri (postpronotum) and notopleural depression. Hairs and bristles on scutum black. Acrostichal and dorsocentral bristles hair-like, as long as half-length of 3rd antennal segment, latter slightly longer. Acrostichals bi-serial, forming row of about 12 setae, dorsocentral bristles uniserial, becoming longer posteriorly and ending with 2 rather long prescutellar pairs. Large marginal bristles long: 1 humeral, 1 intrahumeral, 1 posthumeral, 3 notopleurals, 1 supra-alar, 1 postalar and 2 pairs of scutellar bristles (outer pair very short, hair-like). Humeri and notopleural depression anteriorly with fine, short black hairs. Pronotum (prothoracic collar) with black bristle on each side and inner side of pronotal bristles with 1-2 very small black hairs. Proepisternum and sides of prosternum with fine, very short pale hairs.
Wings brown with black and thick veins. Stigma long, dark brown. Costal bristle as long as frontal bristles. Anal vein only distinct at base. Squamae dark brown with pale fringes. Haltere black, stem brownish at base.
Legs long, completely black, only “knees” (tip of femora and base of tibiae) with tendency to be narrowly brownish. Coxae grey dusted, same coloration with pleura, femora and tibiae subshining, slightly grey dusted. Coxae with short pale hairs, fore coxa anteriorly, mid and hind coxae at lateral edge with black bristles. All femora with short black hairs, only ventral hairs pale. Fore femur ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) without bristles. Mid femur anteriorly with long and fine bristles, 2 near base and 1 at tip. Hind femur with 1 preapical bristly hair. All tibiae with very short black hairs and preapical circlet of bristles. Fore tibia ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) on apical half dorsally with long bristly hairs and 3 rather long and strong bristles. Mid tibia anteroventrally with 3, posteroventrally on apical half with 2, short spine-like bristles shorter than width of mid tibia. Hind tibia with dorsal row of bristly hairs and on apical half with 3 anteroventral bristles. Tarsal segments with very short hairs. Fore basitarsus swollen ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ), shorter than fore tibia, dorsally with dense bristly hairs and on apical half 7 very long and strong bristles. Fore basitarsus ventrally with spine-like hairs on basal half longer than other ventral hairs. Mid and hind basitarsi ventrally with short spinelike hairs.
Abdomen black with dark grey dusting, dorsum slightly brownish dusted, subshining in different angles of view. Abdominal hairs black. Hind marginal bristles generally fine, short; tergum 5 with long bristles; tergum 6 with long, thick bristles; tergum 7 very short, spine-like bristles. Sternum 8 with long, dense black hairs ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Genitalia ( Figs. 3–5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) very enlarged especially lateral lamella. Anterior parts of hypandrium and lateral lamella (epandrial lamella) shiny, former dorsally convex at tip, latter globular with claw-shaped apical projection.
Holotype male body length: 5.3 mm, wing length: 6.1 mm. Paratypes body length: male 4.8–5.5 mm; female 4.7–52 mm, wing length: male 5.6–6.2 mm; female 5.5–6 mm.
Female. All main differential characters as in male, but all hairs shorter, acrostichal and dorsocentral bristles short; bristles on legs as in male but shorter and finer. Fore tibia and basitarsus simple, without dorsal bristles; ventral hairs of fore basitarsus as in male but short; hind tibia long and simple. Abdomen covered with very short, sparse brownish black hairs; hind marginal bristles absent. Tergum 2 at sides with slightly dense dark hairs. Edges of sternum 8 shiny black, lateral sides of terga subshining.
Remarks. Considering the long black bristled fore tibiae and tarsi in males, Hilara deryae is assigned to the H. clavipes species-group. The new species is especially similar to H. clavidipes Chvála , H. clavipes (Harris) and H. bolkarensis Çiftçi et al. , because of the completely black legs in all species except H. clavipes , which has yellowish legs. The structure of the male fore basitarsus and tarsomere 2 is very much like H. clavidipes , differing due to the lack of dorsal bristles on tarsomere 2, whereas H. bolkarensis possesses a basitarsus longer than fore tibia, dorsally with multi-serial dorsal bristles, and swollen and dorsally bristled tarsomere 2. Hilara deryae has darker wings than the related species. The thoracic pattern of H. deryae is much like H. bolkarensis , with sides of scutum broadly blackish in posterior view but the general appearance of the scutum is darker and more brownish dusted in H. deryae . Hind margin of tergum 7 as in H. clavidipes with short spine-like bristles.
