Heniartes flavicans ( Fabricius, 1798)

Wygodzinsky (1947a) mentioned the variability of the lengths of the setae of the posterior submedian stripe of the anterior lobe of the pronotum. In one of the specimens of H. flavicans from the Amazon basin only long setae are present on the submedian lines of the anterior lobe of the pronotum. In all other H. flavicans specimens examined, short setae occur on the submedian lines, agreeing with the observation of Wygodzinsky (1947a). In all specimens the anterolateral angles of the collar have an area of short dense setae, one diagnostic character for this species. H. flavicans has been recorded from French Guiana, Guyana, Brazil (Amazonas, Pará), Peru, and Argentina ( Wygodzinsky 1947a, Maldonado 1990). The specimens listed below are a new record for Colombia ( Fig. 33 ).
