Type material

Holotype male (BDN No.01427), CHINA: Xizang Autonomous Region, Zayü County, 2723 m, 27.VI.1988, light trap, C. Y. Deng. Paratype: 1 male (BDN No.08097), same data as holotype.

Etymology

The species is named after the type locality.

Male imago (n = 2)

Dimensions. Total length 2.73–3.28 mm. Wing length 1.84–2.13 mm. Total length/ wing length 1.28–1.78. Wing length/length of profemur 2.32–2.39.

Coloration. Head brown. Ground color of thorax yellow, brown pigmentation confined to narrow band on anteanepisternum II along anapleural suture, 2/3 of median anepisternum II, anterior border of scutum and posterior border of postnotum ( Fig 36 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ). Tergites II–V yellow each with brown basal band; tergite VI entirely yellow; tergites VII–VIII entirely brown ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ). Hypopygium yellow. Wings with 4 distinct pigmented areas, 1 along humeral crossvein, 1 along crossveins r­m and m­cu, 1 along R3 and 1 parallel to Cu1; membrane of cell m and cell r infuscated ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ).

Head. AR 1.10–1.14. Temporal setae 20–22; including 14–16 verticals and 6–6 postorbitals. Clypeus with 23–24 setae. Tentorium 150–163 µm long, 35–35 µm wide. Palpomere 1–5 lengths (µm): 53–63; 95–133; 163–163; 180–213 (Palpomeres 5 of No. 0 1427 and No.08097 were lost).

Wing ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ). VR 0.91–0.96. Brachiolum with 2 long setae. Squama with 23–30 setae.

Thorax. Antepronotal setae 4–4; dorsocentrals 25–26; acrostichals 22–26; prescutellars 1–2; supraalars 2; prealars 11–15; scutellars 14–15.

Legs. Spur on fore tibia 45 µm long with 7 lateral teeth. Spusr on mid tibia 48–50 and 53–53 µm long with 6 and 8 lateral teeth. Spurs on hind tibia 40–45 and 53–58 µm long with 6 lateral teeth, respectively. Tibial comb on hind leg with 7 setae. Lengths (µm) and proportions of legs as in Table 9 View TABLE 9 .

Hypopygium ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ). Tergite VIII distally expanded and over­reaching tergite IX. Gonocoxite 155–190 µm long. Gonostylus 143–175 µm long. Median volsella 38–50 µm long, 30–33 µm wide. HR 1.09–1.09. HV 1.56–2.30.

Diagnosis

This new species differs from other known species of the genus Hayesomyia by the characteristic markings of the wing and abdomen. It is similar to H. cinctuma sp. n. in having an expanded tergite VIII distally, but their banded abdomen and wing markings are different.
