Distribution

This species is known from the Oriental and Palaearctic Regions. It was found in a southwestern province (Yunnan Province) of Oriental China.

Diagnosis

This species differs from other known species of the genus Hayesomyia by the banded abdomen and characteristic wing markings.

Remarks

The wing length of the Chinese specimen (1.80 mm) is slightly less than the wing length (2.50 mm) described by Murray & Fittkau (1985). The LRI of the Chinese specimen (0.84) is higher than the LRI (0.78) described by Murray & Fittkau (1985).The bands of tergites III–VI of the specimens described by Murray & Fittkau (1985) are separated in the middle, but are entire in the Chinese specimen. The phalloapodeme is not forked (incorrect in the original diagnosis by Murray & Fittkau (1985), as indicated in Fig. 7 by Murray & Fittkau (1985)).
