Hartenius marocanus sp. n.
( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 19. 1 , 70 View FIGURE 70 )
Material examined. Holotype, male: Morocco: “ MOROCCO, Erg Hamada M’Hamid 573 m, N 29°50’51.9“ W 05°35’41.8“ 2009. VI.26–27. fényre [at light] leg.: Szalóki D.” ( HNHM). 1 Paratype, female: same data as HT (CPG).
Diagnosis. The genus Hartenius Platia, 2007 , originally described on the basis of a single species, H. narci Platia, 2007 , from UAE, is new to North Africa ( Platia 2007a). The new species is easily distinguished by the shorter antennae and darker colour.
Description. Male ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 19. 1 ). Yellow-ferruginous, covered with a dense, fine, yellow-golden pubescence. Frons convex, anterior margin simple, moderately and regularly arcuate, slightly protruding above the clypeus, puncturation dense, punctures deep, simple, of the same size, nearly contiguous.
Antennae slightly reaching apices of posterior angles of pronotum, serrated from fourth antennomere on; second and third small, as long as wide, subequal in length, taken together 1.5× shorter than fourth; fourth to tenth triangular, longitudinally feebly carinate, fourth 2× longer than wide, fifth to tenth shorter, on average 1.2× longer than wide, last as long as penultimate, subellipsoidal constricted apically.
Pronotum as long as wide, widest at posterior angles, regularly convex; sides subparallel from base to anterior third, slightly converging at apical extremity, posterior angles long, acuminate, slightly divergent at extremities, bicarinate, outer carina more evident, longer and directed forwards, inner carina very short and slightly visible; lateral margin fine and complete running straight from base to anterior margin; puncturation dense, regularly distributed on whole surface, punctures deep, simple, of variable diameters.
Scutellum shield-shaped, slightly convex, ridged at base, finely punctured.
Elytra 2.53× longer than and as wide as pronotum, moderately convex; sides suboval, widest at middle, apices regularly rounded; striae distinct, finely punctured; interstriae flat, very densely and finely punctured.
Tarsomeres simple, regularly decreasing in length, claws simple.
Aedeagus as in Fig. 70 View FIGURE 70 (length 1.37 mm).
Female. Very similar to male but a little larger and more convex, sides of pronotum more arcuate, slightly dilated at anterior third and with posterior angles more divergent.
Size. Length 7.8–8.8 mm; width 2.09–2.37 mm.
Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the country where the species was collected: Morocco.
