Mamaev (1964) described the female of G. longipalpis as having four palpal segments, the necks and nodes of the medial flagellomeres equally long, and no sclerotized spermathecae. The only other European Gynapteromyia View in CoL with occasionally four palpus segments is G. brevipalpis View in CoL (see Fig. 4C View FIGURE 4 A – F ), but females of that species were described as having very short flagellomere necks and two sclerotized spermathecae ( Mamaev 1964, Spungis 1985).
